Well, you better (insert your word of choice) learn……
Daniel to JP…..
I don’t know how to photoshop yet…….
JP to Daniel while snapping his photo….
And as we were driving down the highway
She asked me baby what’s so great
How come you’re always going on
About your Lone Star State
I said that’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway
Lyle Lovett… lyrics from “That’s Right….” and on the 2006 Dallas Playlist – the year we moved to Texas.
For Keary….. mi cocina es su cocina…..
KC is master of the dessert and on a recent PM asked me where my “double boiler” was… ”Huh?” was the response…. ”Double Boiler..???” There isn’t a doubt in my mind that the lack of appropriate kitchen accoutrements certainly threw off the expected result of the Pineapple cake from a previous PM. That, and the fact that, while transitioning to some new living arrangements, KC is without an oven. A fact we all came to appreciate during the making of the pineapple cake through the statement…. “it would have been better if I (emphasis on the “I”) had made the loaf cake…..”. Well, KC… For you…. a rolling pin, a muffin pan AND a double boiler. You can make your famous loaf pan in my oven ANYDAY….. xoxo
Cowgirls
Maybe I was destined to spend time in Texas…. The photo was taken sometime around 1963. It is in my Grammy and Grampy’s living room. I know this through my mother who shared the story with me – along with the comment – “I would never have that wallpaper!” And I am confident I am singing “Even Cowgirls get the blues.” Whatever. Texas, I believe, was in my destiny.
There are coincidences. There is fate. I believe you choose the life you make and for me, Texas has brought together old friends and new friends and was a great choice.
The Old Fashioned Way….
Unusually temperate weather led me to believe that PM could end up sitting by the pool. So on Wednesday at 6 am I swept the pool deck the old fashioned way…. with a broom and dustpan. It made me think of times gone by … It also made me think about getting into shape! Sweeping is hard work!
A toast and a prayer
First, I LOVE coming home to a kitchen filled with activity. As I came through the back door DC and PD were busy at work with a champagne bottle near at hand. The meetings of the week behind us, and a night of revelry in front of us, it seemed the perfect way to begin – with a toast. Sadly, not too long after arriving home, we got word that PC couldn’t make it due to some unfortunate family news. So, as we took to the table, PD led us in a prayer for our friend and his family. It was an authentic moment for a missing friend.
I think PC said it best in a later letter when he reminded us that these situations “make us love life, our families, our friends, just a little bit more and hug them all a little bit tighter.”
We missed our PM buddy a lot…. and are comforted to know things are just a bit better today than yesterday and are confident tomorrow will be even brighter.
Everyone should have a “Patrick” in their life. I’m the richer because i have two.
Surprise and Delight…..
I am so excited. The guys are going to “surprise me” with a PM night. It has been a long week for everyone – all our PM crew – and what a nice thoughtful way to break up the week. By being surprised! I can’t wait…..
The Ridiculousness of it all
Let’s see…. fried oysters, fried okra, peacakes, crabcakes, a layered salad, a bucket of fried chicken, biscuits, halibut and succotash, 2 orders of short ribs, 2 banana puddings, chocolate cake and……
a diet coke.
