The old widow…
Did you know that is the translation of Veuve Clicquot? The rose is so pretty and such a nice drink to have while cooking dinner. A tradition for over 20 years….
Heirloom
We have this terrific little Farmers market in Laguna each Saturday am. It draws from all over the Orange County area. These heirloom tomatoes were bought from a stand of organic produce. While in the market shopping and shooting I met an uber cool woman who has been a commercial photographer and now does fine art photography and painting. Her name is Jennifer Griffiths and her work can be seen at jennifergriffiths.net. I was encouraged by her stopping me to ask me about my work. It was a funny experience to be thought of in a completely different context. I was able to have a great conversation with her about photography and for that I thank my friend, mentor and coach – Peter Poulides at the Spot Studio. He can be reached at info@spotstudio.com

Flank Steak Teriyaki

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 Tablespoons vinegar
2 Tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 large clove minced garlic
11/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Combine all ingredients and pour over steak. Marinate 4 hours or more (overnight is better). Turn meat occasionally. Barbecue over coals about 4 minutes each side for medium rare.
Thanks, Jen….and Happy Bday! Lisa
I won’t share the reasons why this simple Birthday wish meant the world to me.
These 5 simple words confirm that you can overcome your past and choose your future – no matter the circumstance and years.
And that, my friends, gives me hope.
True North
Family isn’t always blood. its the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.
Joy Personified
Tillmans Roadhouse, Bishop Arts – Dallas, Texas
Six years to my birthday I began working in Texas and living in Oak Cliff (ironically for me – the Texas OC). It was during one of the early visits to Dallas that my mother and I first dined at Tillmans. As a result, the restaurant has a special place in my heart and links back to my transition from California. It was a perfect choice. High on the list of recommendations – ginger infused lemon drops, the trio of French Fries, the hamburger, redfish, shrimp and grits and barbecue smoked chicken. And lastly, for those loving sweets – the Mudpie.
And if you haven’t experienced cabin chic, Tillmans does it better than anyone. I longed for shorter days, colder nights, chunky sweaters and mountain air. And I don’t think I was the only one… right PC?
Synergies and Passions
I love surprises and this birthday was full of them! And each one was centered around some of my most favorite things…. friends, sharing experiences and inspiration.
Thank you KC for the mini tripod. Perfect (for proof see the videos from Tillmans)! It has been added to the “turtle” (ask PD what that means) and will always be close at hand.
And PD, I look forward to really studying the photography book and looking for opportunities to improve. The inspiration is powerful and to learn from others a lifelong gift.
