The Table
Best part about holidays is sitting around the table. I particularly like the time about 1/3 of the way into the meal… everyone is eating and drinking and relaxing and the conversation turns to something. On this night, it was about my Dad and his time serving in the Korean war. He was a submariner and spoke to us about sub school – making the point that there were no claustrophobics on a “boat” (referencing the name for a submarine used differently than ship or tender). About that time, I excused myself from the table to go to my jewelry box and pull from it the links from my Dad’s Navy ID bracelet All these years I have kept it safe. He no longer knows where his Dolphins are, but he can rest assured that I will keep safe the remainder of his ID bracelet.
