Mimi’s grocery list. Photo taken June 2012.
Its amazing how much her handwriting has stayed the same despite the years and arthritis that plagues her. I love the fact that she still does this and that the list sits on the counter in her kitchen.

Its amazing how much her handwriting has stayed the same despite the years and arthritis that plagues her. I love the fact that she still does this and that the list sits on the counter in her kitchen.
The year was 1984 and I was getting married. As a gift, my grandmother – Mimi – collected her favorite recipes as a foundation for my life as a new bride. In the following years she lost most of them in a move, a fact I only recently understood. In my possession is a snapshot of her that I want to share. She loves keeping house and at age 98, keeps her own grocery list. If left to her own devices she scoots furniture around her apartment – where to this day she lives alone. I am inspired by her independent spirit and her confidence in what she loves.
The best photo ever taken! And I am convinced, the reason why I have been studying for nearly two years.
It started with a simple question “we going out?”… and before you knew it we had the memory of a lifetime. Seriously – I will never EVER forget it.
My mom simply said “Mama, I’m going to have a cosmo and I think you would like it….”
And the rest is history.
Most importantly – it inspired me to search for adventure and be more present in my life. I love my Mimi. And despite time and distance, she is an inspiration to me.
I love this photo for how it jumpstarted me, and gave me a mission to live life bigger and to live it surrounded by people I love.
You are never to old for an adventure, or for a new cocktail. Here’s to you Mildred!
